Muddy Wellies Garden Design
Garden design is so much more than just landscaping, professional garden design increases the visual appeal and value of your home, whilst giving you a garden that works for your needs and becomes a beautiful, versatile living space.
Our goal is to strike the perfect balance between form and function while promoting biodiversity, supporting local wildlife, and working in harmony with the natural environment and reusing materials wherever possible.
We are passionate about helping our clients bring their vision to life, transforming outdoor spaces into stunning, functional gardens that provide joy and inspiration for years to come.
OUR PROCESS
Initial enquiry
Following your initial enquiry, we’ll invite you to complete our garden landscaping questionnaire. This is your first opportunity to share your vision with us, and we can’t wait to hear how you’d like to transform your garden! Once completed, we’ll be in touch to arrange a consultation and site assessment.
" From our first meeting until the completion, I have been so impressed with their friendly attitude, professionalism and work ethic."
Consultation and Site Assessment
During our consultation and site assessment, we’ll explore your ideas in more detail, evaluate their feasibility within your indicated level of investment, begin to define your brief and share some initial ideas. This discussion helps us get a clearer picture of your dream garden, and we’ll take photos of key areas for reference. We value collaborating closely with you to ensure our ideas and inspirations align to create your perfect outdoor space.
After the assessment, you’ll receive an outline of the consultation outcomes and an approach for the project. From here, we can discuss a range of next steps, typically involving some level of design services.
"The whole design process was so enjoyable and I now have an oasis in the garden. It is so much more than I could have imagined."
Site Survey
This step helps us get the “lie of the land”! Our physical site survey involves detailed measuring and mapping of your garden, including structures, trees, service locations (both underground and above), and any potential risks. This survey lays the foundation for a design that’s not only beautiful but also safe and well-suited to your space. For simpler gardens, we handle the survey ourselves, but complex sites may require a specialist—Cornish gardens are famously intricate and multi-levelled!
If appropriate we will gather soil samples to test, making note of flora and fauna in case this is a determining factor towards your project.
We also take a visual site survey, or photographic survey, to inform design decisions, capturing elements like service locations, boundary heights, and views (whether a stunning landscape or neighbouring properties).
creating a design concept
Design Concept
With the information gathered and a detailed site plan in place, we move to the exciting stage of creating a design concept. This process is collaborative, and your input is invaluable.
We’ll usually present a visual representation of our discussions, which may include any of the following based on your project type:
- 2D plan
- 3D plan
- Sketches
- Video walkthrough
- Mood board
After discussing this concept, we may also review it against your investment level. Value engineering can take place at this stage to shape a final plan that fits both your vision and budget. We can often provide an estimate or quote from this concept; alternatively, we’ll advise if further detailed drawings are needed and outline any associated fees.
Design Details
The design details build on the concept plan, incorporating any adjustments and providing dimensions and specifications for each element. The drawings may include:
- Plan views
- Elevations
- Dimensions
- Boundaries
- Construction details
- Planting plans and selections
These plans are essential to:
- Provide an accurate cost estimate or quote
- Show you a clear visual of how your garden will be transformed
- Guide our skilled landscaping team in bringing your vision to life
We’ll try to present the designs to you in person and look forward to your feedback. We’ll revise the estimate if any changes are needed, ensuring you have a clear understanding of the investment involved.
Booking and Works
We’re fortunate to have a skilled in-house landscaping team dedicated to making your garden dreams come true! With our team handling every detail in close collaboration with your designer you can be confident that the project is in capable hands.
Once we’ve agreed on the quotation, we’ll provide a booking form and payment plan, take a booking fee, and pencil in a date for the works to commence.
Seeing the hardscaping and softscaping come together is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, and we can’t wait to see your reaction!
We’ll stay in touch throughout, discussing any project details as needed. After the quotation is agreed and works begin, alterations may sometimes be necessary due to unforeseen circumstances or your preferences. In such cases, we’ll prepare a variation order outlining the adjusted scope and any impact on budget. Ensuring your happiness and satisfaction at every stage is always our priority.
Completion
Towards the end of the project, we’ll walk around the site with you to review Practical Completion and ensure you’re pleased with how it aligns with the brief. We’ll ask for your final sign-off as we complete the project.
"They are friendly, knowledgeable, creative, hard working, reliable, honest and a joy to have working in our home. "
